Manchester United has completed the signing of Nigerian international Odion Ighalo in a dramatic turn of events. The deal is a loan deal that will run till the end of the current season.
The signing of Ighalo on deadline day will come as a huge relief to United who are facing a striker crisis following a long term injury to Marcus Rashford.
This will be Ighalo’s second stint in the English Premier League having played for Watford before heading to China in 2017. He started with Changchun Yatai before joining Shanghai Shenhua last year.
It’s understood that Ighalo rejected an offer from Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspurs to join Manchester United, whom he had earlier described as his boyhood dream club.
While with Watford, Ighalo scored a total of 36 goals in 72 Premier League games. In China, he has so far scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for Shanghai Shenhua.
On the international scene with Nigeria, Odion Ighalo was the highest goal scorer in the last African Cup of Nations with a haul of 5 goals, beating both Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Mohammed Salah (Egypt) to the honour.
Ighalo now becomes the first ever Nigerian to play for Manchester United.
